Last year about this time I was asked to write a butt load of flash fiction scripts for Toronto’s top acting school Talent Inc Canada — for both adult and children classes. I recently came upon them again and remembered how fun they were so I will be sharing these drops while I prepare some other content.
This was the first one I dropped last March (with audio):
For those that rather read than listen, here is the script for:
MAMA’S GETTING FAT
Jodie, Jill, and Jessica are sitting cross-legged on the floor in Jessica’s bedroom. They look nervously between each other.
Jessica (whispers): I call this Sister meeting into order…
Jodie and Jill look confused and giggle at each other.
Jodie: Why are you whispering?
Jill (loudly): Yeah, why you whispering?
Jessica shushes them and puts a finger to her lips signaling them to be quiet.
Jessica (whispers): ‘Cause Mama is ALWAYS listening.
Jill looks scared.
Jill (whispers loudly): Are we gonna get in trouble?
Jodie rolls her eyes and shakes her head.
Jessica (whispers): Not if you learn how to whisper quietly! Now hush. I’ve got important business to discuss.
Jodie: What’s so important that I had to get off my Facetime chat?
Jessica gives Jodie a death glare.
Jodie (whispers): Ok fine. I’m whispering. Now what is so important and why can’t Mama hear?
Jessica smiles in satisfaction.
Jessica (whispers): Thank you, I called this meeting into order because I’m afraid Mama might be dying.
Jill gasps and jumps up on her feet.
Jill: DYING??!!
Jessica pulls her back to the ground and puts her finger to her mouth. Jodie rolls her eyes.
Jessica (whispers): Yes! And the kids at school have been teasing me that Mama is getting fat and is gonna pop like a balloon!
Jill (whispers loudly): Mama ain’t fat! She’s beautiful and squishy!
Jessica: Mama keeps throwing up everything she eats but she keeps getting FATTER!
Jodie looks at Jessica smugly.
Jodie (whispers): Ssshhhhhhhh WHISPER!
Jill (crying): Why is Mama throwing up? Why is Mama dying? Why is Mama getting fat?
Jodie hugs Jill while giving Jessica a death glare.
Jodie: There there, Jilly. It’s all right. Mama isn’t dying. She’s just gonna have another baby.
Jessica: Ohhhhhhhhh that makes sense.
